About ME

I am a Senior Shariah Advisor & Islamic Finance Expert with over 15 years of international experience working full-time in Shariah Advisory, Shariah Research, Shariah Audit & Shariah Training at global Islamic financial institutions in Kuala Lumpur, London, Abu Dhabi (Al Hilal Bank), Dubai (Dubai Islamic Bank) & Riyadh (Albilad Capital). For 6 years I served as a full-time Senior Shariah Advisor & Researcher (Senior Manager) at Albilad Capital, a fully-fledged Investment Bank and subsidiary of Bank Albilad in Riyadh, KSA, well known for its strong Shariah compliance culture, innovative Shariah compliant capital market products and Shariah research. Besides currently working as an independent Shariah Advisor/Consultant to a number of companies internationally, I am the Founder of RIZQONOMICS, an Islamic Economics & Finance Education Initiative (Instagram:@rizqonomics).

I am a British Citizen, born and raised in the UK and went to Secondary School in Harare, Zimbabwe. During my time in Zimbabwe, I witnessed the economic turmoil the country went through as well as the income disparity which existed among various segments of society. At the same time I became more interested in learning about Islam after spending time with some of the local people of knowledge (the Menk family and in particular Sheikh Ismail Menk) and thus opted to travel abroad to learn more about my religion and to learn about what it has to offer as an alternative and solution to the current economic challenges facing us today. 

I completed a Bachelors Degree (1st Class Honours) specialising in Islamic Economics & Finance (Top Ranked Student & Best Student in Islamic Economics Award) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), a Bachelors Degree (1st Class Honours) specialising in Shariah (Fiqh & Usul al-Fiqh) from Al-Madinah International University (Malaysia), a Masters specialising in Islamic Finance from INCEIF (Malaysia) and a PhD from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), where my research focused on Shariah Governance in the UAE & KSA. I am a Certified Shariah Advisor and Auditor (CSAA) from AAOIFI. I have benefited from prominent Senior Shariah Scholars, Islamic Economists & Islamic Bankers, academically as well as profesionally. Additionally, I have sought knowledge of various Islamic sciences traditionally from various Shariah Scholars in Malaysia, Yemen, UAE & KSA.
